AJ is a 5 year old boy in Texas who has been diagnosed with an extremely rare autoimmune disorder. He started getting sick at 18 months and thus began a long and painful journey to where he is today. It has taken 4 years for the doctors to identify and diagnose the cause of his problems.
When AJ is feeling good, he goes 100 mph and has the most engaging personality. He likes to ride his mini 4-wheeler around the yard and down to his Aunt Candace's house. He loves Sponge Bob and frequently talks to Clifford The Big Red Dog on the phone.
One of AJ's special loves are trains. He has amassed a large collection of Thomas the Tank Engine tracks, trains and depots from friends and relatives. He will also run you over when he hears the train whistle. Watching the lights and gates downtown is a favorite thing to do.

APECED Syndrome is a very rare genetic syndrome involving the autoimmune system. It is a combination of several distinct disorders and is defined as the subnormal functioning of several endocrine glands at the same time (concurrently). The acronym APECED stands for Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy (APE), Candidiasis (C) and Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED). Autoimmune disease affecting one gland is frequently followed by the impairment of other glands.
